A number of links on Brussels:
Amparanoia (20u30 Place de la Monnaie)
Amparanoia is the brainchild of Andalusian
beauty Amparo Sanchez from Granada. In the mid nineties Amparo moves to
Madrid and learns the tricks of the trade in the capital's club scene.
This period also witnesses the arrival of the inevitable Manu Chao in Madrid
and the emergence of a new local "bohème" with dynamic artistic
branches. A productive time for Amparanoia. In 1997 they release their
El Poder de Machin. Ranchera, ska, bolero, chanson: all the ingredients
are there to add more flavour to the already infectious Mediterranean music.
From there, everythings happens very fast : Womad, BAM (Barcelona),and
Midem, followed by the more violent cd Feria Furiosa with guest-appearances
by befriended artists such as Manu Chao and Tonino Carotone. In 2001 Amparo
joins the Mexican zapatist movement, which reverberates on Somos Viento.
Exuberant music by one of the prominent bands of the flourishing Spanish
"mestizo" scene (Macaco, Ojos de Brujo, ...). Fiesta guaranteed!
